FUTOURISMUS – Marburg 2031
The project researches how different uses and meanings of neglected urban spaces can be imagined beyond common commercial narratives. The project invites locals of Marburg to explore four spaces in the city through an audio-walk which leads them through the fictional future events of the year 2031.
Each story relates to one currently prevailing public space issue of the city and experiments with science-fiction, utopian and dystopian narratives as well as magical elements to exaggerate, solve or contradict the respective issue.
The medium of the audio-walk is explored as a format of experiential and imaginary walking by working with participatory scores as well as a sound-design which alienates field recordings to trigger the listeners´ own imagination.
FUTOURISMUS investigates into Michel de Certeau´s notion “What the map cuts up, the story cuts across.” on two levels: On a micro-level, the borders posed by the urban design of each neglected space are transcended by the listeners when they follow its new use. On a macro-level, the story-line connects the four geographically distant spaces. A new walking route is created that aims to shift perception of public space in Marburg by deviating from the common sight-seeing tours.
